Standing together and embracing peace is the purpose of an evolving group in Owen Sound, which has started meeting on Tuesdays from 5:30 - 6 pm outside Owen Sound City Hall.
Last night there were 15 people who gathered, arms linked, to affirm the warmth, strength, courage and light which comes from standing together for peace in the darkness. More joined in through social media to express their support for peace in their communities and around the globe.
Initiated by Fiona McConachie-Anderson, a retired high school teacher living in Owen Sound, this is an open, multigenerational group who welcomes anyone and everyone to stand together and embrace peace. Please join us in Owen Sound, or consider starting a STEP towards peace in your community.
Current Facebook post for STEP:
I will be standing outside Owen Sound City Hall next Tuesday evening November 24th from 5:30 pm until 6 pm. There will be no microphones, no prepared speeches. This is not a vigil, rather a standing together to embrace peace. If you wish to sing, sing. If you wish to play music, play music. If you wish to say something, speak. Others may choose to join in, or not.
We never walk or stand alone. We may choose to link arms.
At 6 pm we'll quietly disperse.
If you can't make it to Owen Sound or are working or unable to get out or choose to stay where you are, you can still join us. Use social media to tweet, post, instagram your thoughts, feelings, or photos.
Everyone is welcome to come, stand together, embrace peace.
Please invite friends. You are my brother, you are my sister, and I'm yours.
