Owen Sound's favourite downtown event returns on Friday December 4th, with more than 40 businesses participating in "FESTIVE 1st FRIDAY". Each store will do something special for Christmas shoppers: workshops, music, specials and unveilings. Participants will provide wish lists for shoppers to fill out and hand over to that special person who's not sure what to get you for Christmas!
"This is the perfect opportunity to think about yourself and what you would like to see under the tree from Santa," says organizer Camille Cole of Dr. Cobbler.
Hailing back to the days when stores were open on Friday night, this event will showcase boutique downtown businesses. The last event, "FIFTIES 1ST FRIDAY", was a brilliant success and many customers and business owners commented on the wonderful sense of nostalgia that filled the downtown. Stylish posters and gold balloons will indicate the retailers and organizations participating in the event.
Camille Cole began the 1st Friday events a year ago in her own business, and with the help of a group she formed called "BoOST" (Businesses and Organizations of Owen Sound Together) the project has grow significantly with 4 Friday openings per year. "This event has grown and evolved beyond my wildest expectations," says Cole "It proves the spirit of our downtown is strong and vibrant!" The Downtown Improvement Area has collaborated with these events, and for FESTIVE 1st FRIDAY will contribute with carolers roaming the streets and horse drawn carriage rides.
