AgnesProfile

The Bank of Canada needs help deciding who should be the first Canadian woman featured on our money. Grey County believes no one deserves the honour more than Grey County's own Agnes Macphail, Canada's first woman Member of Parliament.

Agnes had a national impact and was a trailblazer and inspiration for women across Canada. You can nominate her to be the first Canadian woman on a banknote. Links to the nomination page are posted on the County of Grey's Facebook page.

Why nominate Agnes?

 Agnes paved the way for many great women in Canadian politics who followed in her footsteps.
 Agnes spoke up for mistreated groups, such as farmers and labourers and she was pivotal toprison reform.
 Agnes held office from 1921-1940.
 Throughout her success, Agnes maintained a lifelong connection to Grey County.
 Agnes was elected to Ontario Provincial Parliament in Ontario in 1943.
Nomination Process

The Bank of Canada will accept nominations until April 15, 2016. An independent advisory council will then review submissions and create a "long-list" of 10-12 names. A formal public survey will be used to help reduce the list down to 3-5 names and the Bank of Canada and Minister of Finance will make a final decision. Full details are available here.
