Again this year our neighbours are Freezin for a Reason. The local Polar Plunge, organized by the Owen Sound Police to raise money for the Torch Run for local Special Olympians, will start at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 19 at Bayshore Community Centre. Be there in good time to enjoy all the fun – it's not like they are going to stay in all day!
This year it won't be a hole cut in the ice - participants will be running in from the shoreline north of the Bayshore. Bob Wallace of 92.3 The Dock will be leading his Dock Ducks in taking the plunge yet again. Like most teams, Bob says they'll be dressed up in crazy costumes, but he is not revealing any details other than "something that does well when it gets wet of course".
Bob says "There's a great sense of comradery because we're all doing the same crazy stunt!" and he has convinced Owen Sound Mayor Ian Boddy to join the Dock team for his first ever jump.
The team or individual who raises the most money wins some great prizes including a $2,500 trip to the Ultimate Polar Plunge in the Polar Bear Capital of the World: Churchill, Manitoba. (yeah...that's a prize!)
