Two more opportunities remain to join your neighbours in considering how we create a hospitable community.
On April 5 th and April 19 th , an original and compelling presentation Métissage: from Newash to Mudtown, Set 1, Corkscrew City and Set 2, Ring That Bell captivated the audience. Larry Jensen (musician and poet), Mary Little (visual artist), Susan Schank (historian & aboriginal hand-drummer), Richard-Yves Sitoski (poet), and Rob Rolfe (poet, labour leader) made up the ensemble.
On April 12 th , Lenore Keeshig, noted Indigenous poet, explored the experience of being a stranger in one's own land. Hot Black Coffee's music framed the evening.
On April 26 th , a lovely young couple – Rajab and Hanan Al Sheayar shared their excitement of arriving in Canada after 4 long years in Lebanon. They miss the family they left behind in Syria but could no longer risk the lives of their children. Brave and engaging, they are quickly becoming friends, not strangers in a new land, grateful that Canada, in Hanan's words "has the heart for us".
Coming up this Tuesday (May 3rd), Isaac Couto (student at law) and Lada Couto will share their experiences as newcomers to Owen Sound and (for Lada) to Canada. The music of Piper Hayes will round out the evening.
The series runs for six successive Tuesday evenings (7 to 9 pm) from April 5 th to May 10 th at
St. George's Anglican Church Hall, 1049 4 th Avenue East. For a complete description of the series, go
