Downtown Owen Sound will be open for business to celebrate FRESH 1st FRIDAY on May 6 from 6 to 9 pm. Over 40 businesses will have special demonstrations, displays, samples, performances and other features to entice shoppers to sip, savour and shop in the downtown.
Organized by BoOST, a volunteer group of merchants working to revitalize the downtown, the 1st FRIDAY event is part of a seasonal series now entering its 2nd year. Instigator Camille Cole of Dr. Cobbler's Shoes and Swirls, says, "I know how many wonderful stores and restaurants we have here in the downtown and I wanted to create these special events to showcase them. We saw many hundreds of new customers during last year's 1st FRIDAYS and we are looking forward to continuing the trend. So I encourage everyone to come on down and get FRESH with us."
The 1st FRIDAYS started last year with FRESH (in May), FIFTIES (in August), FESTIVE (in December) and FRISKY (in February). Each event was greeted with enthusiasm by retailers, and many restaurants created special theme-related displays and menu items. An added 1st FRIDAY feature is a special performance at Heartwood Concert Hall, a new music venue in the downtown. On Friday May 6, a Mudtown Records music series, FRESHCUT, presents The Weber Brothers and Charles Glasspool and the Portents. Doors open at 8:30.
