A six month Owen Sounder shared the spotlight with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau at the Federal Liberal Convention over the weekend. Finn Lipka was in attendance with his mother Meghan, the Executive Vice-President of the Bruce Grey Owen Sound Liberals. As the Prime Minister passed them, he paused and held Finn up to the cheers of the gathered liberals, then kissed him on the head before passing him back to his mum. A team of 9 delegates from Bruce Grey Owen Sound attended the 3-day policy convention.

Two Young Liberal delegates, Liam Kelly of Chesley and Isabel Drummond of Owen Sound, were thrilled that the policy proposed by the Federal Young Liberal group to lower the voting age to 16 was accepted and passed. Liam commented, "we get engaged in the political process through our civics classes but often young people lose that excitement by the time they are eligible to vote".

Two of the priority motions accepted are particularly important to the riding of Bruce Grey Owen Sound.

Delegates adopted a policy for the Liberal Party of Canada to make it a priority to have the federal government work urgently with provincial and municipal governments to encourage housing affordability, an area of concern in our riding.

A priority resolution was also adopted by the party, encouraging all provinces to work with the Federal Liberal government to legislate long term plans for scheduling infrastructure projects in a coordinated fashion with the Federal budgeting process. Past BGOS Federal Liberal candidate Kimberley Love advocated for the Owen Sound Harbour and the Wiarton Airport at policy discussions related to infrastructure prior to the vote. Citing the lack of progress under the former government, Love pushed cabinet ministers to be aware of these local needs in infrastructure spending.
