Sheatre LogoLocal arts for change organization, Sheatre is seeking participants in grades seven to twelve for a think tank at the Owen Sound Library on August 11th to test and assess activities that will accompany the fall 2016 Far From the Heart tour.

Far From the Heart is an interactive play about dating violence first developed by Grey Bruce youth in 2006. Since then, the play has toured seven times across two provinces, been translated and produced in French, and been adapted into an award-winning interactive film. The program combines classroom activities, the play itself, audience interventions, and follow up discussions and activities to help students explore the complex issues around healthy relationships and sexual assault.

The Sheatre team is currently updating the classroom activities that accompany the play to make sure they are relevant and engaging. No one is a better judge of that than students so Sheatre is inviting students in grades seven to twelve to give feedback on August 11th from 11am-4pm in the boardroom of the Owen Sound Library. A light lunch will be provided and the time will count for high school volunteer hours. The students will watch the film, work with a variety of materials, discuss their effectiveness, and brainstorm alternative ideas.

Youth have been a driving force in Far From the Heart since its creation and their voices are essential to the program's success. Interested students can register by e-mailing [email protected] or calling 519-379-2574. Visit Facebook for more information and www.farfromtheheart.com to watch the interactive film.
