Another season has come and gone at Cabot Head Lightstation. It has been a very busy and productive year. Most of our success comes from the on-going support and interest of our local community. We count on you to visit, send us your guests, share our posts, help us with chores as contractors and volunteers, donate or buy memberships, tell us your lighthouse stories, and generally appreciate the natural and cultural wealth of Cabot Head. And you always come through! Thanks so much!
An extra special thanks goes to the McFarlane, Hopkins, and Meneray Families who have a long history with Cabot Head. Their visits and stories add so much to our experience of this unique and wonderful place.
Volunteers and staff worked diligently on October 22-23 weekend to get the lightstation shipshape and snug for the winter. The windows are boarded, water system drained, signs stored away, gardens harvested and tidied, and the myriad of other winterising tasks tended. Great work everyone!
The Friends of Cabot Head, a not-for-profit organization, was formed by a group of concerned area citizens to take over the restoration, maintenance and management of Historic Cabot Head Lightstation. Agreements were made with the Canadian Coast Guard and then Lindsay Township and now the Municipality of Northern Bruce Peninsula, and in the period from 1994-1996, major renovation work was done on the Lighthouse using limited grant money and volunteer labour and expertise.
We continue to invite the local community to connect and get involved. Visit us online to learn more. Cabot Head Lightstation will re-open to the public May 1, 2017. Thanks again for a great season! Wishing you a restful winter!
