Today Louis Riel day is being acknowledged across Canada. The Métis flag is flying at Georgian College.

This is day of remembrance of his hanging, but also a celebration of Métis resilience.

The speakers included Senator Roland St. Germaine, Senator Ralph Wolf Whistle of the Great Lakes Métis Council, Greg McGregor, Manager of Indigenous Services at the College, Meg Ellis, the Community Wellness Co-ordinator (Métis Nation of Ontario), Michael V. Smith, MNO Employment Developer.

The event was planned by the Indigenous Advisor at the College, Hillary Trudeau.

After the flag raising the participants were invited inside for refreshments and Métis fiddle playing by Jill Lefavre.
