The Owen Sound Police Service is reminding everyone to enjoy their New Year festivities responsibly. Don't drink and drive!

Acting Deputy Chief Vince Wurfel states, "While this message may seem repetitive, each year numerous preventable deaths occur as a result of impaired driving".

It is not simply alcohol causing these preventable collisions. Recreational drugs and prescription drugs have also been the cause of impaired driving collisions causing injuries and deaths. Even slight impairment can have tragic consequences, especially if combined with poor lighting and weather conditions.

Plan ahead. Do not give yourself the opportunity to make that potentially fatal decision of driving while impaired. Plan a designated driver, taxi, public transit or stay over.

The Owen Sound Police Service will be conducting R.I.D.E. checks at various times and locations throughout the holiday weekend to ensure everyone enjoys a safe New Year celebration.
