The Owen Sound Police Service is reminding citizens to be smart on social media when posting pictures of their adventures and holiday memories this March Break. While not everyone has holidays during the school break, some residents will be going on vacation next week or may head out of town to spend time with family and friends.
Here are some easy tips to remember before you leave and while you are away:
-Don't post your destination and duration of your trip on social media sites such as Instagram, Facebook or Twitter;
-Supervise your children's posts to social media and on internet connected gaming platforms;
-Ask a neighbour, trusted friend or family member to collect papers, flyers and to watch for deliveries. Have them check on your property from time to time while you are away;
-Consider putting a lamp or a television on a timer to enhance crime prevention;
-When departing, do not leave recycling or garbage bags curbside in advance of the collection day;
-Ensure that your smoke detectors are working;
-Protect your passport and other official documents. Take a picture of your passport, so that you have a copy if it is lost or stolen;
-Students are away from school next week so be extra careful when driving, as children may not always be focusing on traffic safety;
The Owen Sound Police Service would like to wish you, your family and friends a safe and happy March Break. Remember, following simple crime prevention tips dramatically decreases your risk of victimization and loss of property.
