After a full and fabulous July 1, the Maawanji'iding:Festival Canadiana party is far from over. Today is ImagiNation Day,
Starting at noon, free creative activities for all ages range from virtual reality to traditional fiddle, "Future City"design to circus arts.
Hands-on workshops (under tents for sun and showers) in everything from traditional Chinese brush painting to cutting edge technology. Children and youth are the focus but everyone is welcome to participate.
There will be music every minute. An Emerging Artists Showcase in the amphitheatre will feature Mireille Marie, Madison Galloway, Greg Smith Music, and Tragedy Ann.
The Franco-Ontarian sister group Ariko, steeped in the fiddle-based music of canadiana, jazz, gypsy swing and Celtic traditions, is performing tonight at 6:30 pm in the amphitheatre, the start of the ImagiNation Day evening concert, the first act in a show that also includes Madison Galloway, the Elemental World Drum Ensemble, and Alysha Brilla & the Brilltones!
The sisters are also leading a traditional fiddle workshop at 2:00pm, and Bonhommes Gigeurs (dancing puppets) workshops at 1:00 and 3;30pm, in the riverside tent (south end of park). Bring your fiddle for the tunes! Or just bring your dancing feet!
Again, it's all free although donations are always appreciated.
There will be no outside lane closure of Eddie Sargent Parkway for parking this year, but public parking is available outside the park fence, on nearby streets where permitted, and at the Keystone Child and Family Services building at 1793 3rd Avenue East.
