The potatoes are dug and it's time to boil up a pot of "lumpers" to make a batch of everyone's favourite "Pratie Oaten": Irish potato oatcakes!
On September 24, come to Moreston Heritage Village at Grey Roots to take part in the Pratie Oaten Irish Festival! From noon until 5 p.m., the village will be full of delicious food, costumed interpreters, live music, and entertainment. Enjoy Celtic music and storytelling, including performances by Ian Bell; Fiddlefern; Dance Callers Collective; Session Players; Scatter the Cats and Friends, including Ian Harper on the Irish pipes; and Tara MacKenzie. Check out basketry, fanning mill, and blacksmith demonstrations, visit the local vendors, and enjoy a horse drawn wagon ride by Dual Acres.
Samples of Pratie Oaten will be available throughout the day in the Log Cabin, along with other snacks and a food truck from Sweet Things by Dejong Acres.
Don't miss this fun tribute to the early Irish settlers in Grey County!
