Owen Sound's rich musical mix just got a little younger. Local singer and voice teacher Kelda Mikalson is bringing an early childhood music and movement program to town, and is offering free demonstration classes this December. The research-based Music Together program for children from birth through kindergarten—"and the grownups who love them" - has been around for thirty years and is now in 40 countries, but this is the first time it has been offered in Grey-Bruce.kelda

"We all sing and move with babies naturally, " Kelda acknowledges. "The classes combine a variety of rhythms, songs, and movement that have been chosen to develop comfort and confidence with the elements that are the beginning of musical education." At-home resources are also provided so the music can be shared with the whole extended family .

Kelda Mikalson received her Bachelor of Music in the windy coulees of Lethbridge, and then hopped a train east to try her luck. She now lives in Owen Sound where she has found a supportive and wonderfully eclectic community. Kelda has a long history of singing in choirs, putting on independent historical and cabaret shows, and acting in musicals. She is a voice teacher at Long and McQuade and works in activation in Long Term Care.

For more information about the program or the December 5th and 12th demonstration classes check the Music Together with Kelda Facebook page or call her at 519-371-8275.
