The first full week of April is Archives Awareness Week in Ontario. This year the Bruce County Museum & Cultural Centre is celebrating with free admission to the Research Room for the whole week, April 3 to 7. You may ask yourself, what is an Archives and Research Room? This is where we preserve Bruce County's written history and help researchers access information they are looking for!
Maybe you are looking for a long lost family member or an interesting skeleton in your families' closet; are you interested in finding information on a shipwreck long forgotten; perhaps you want to know more about your historic home; we can help! Visit the Research Room Tuesday to Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. to unlock the answers to your questions, or visit www.collections.brucemuseum.ca to see what kinds of resources are available.
On Tuesday, April 3, "Celebrate Archives, History and Genealogy with Bruce County Stories and Where to Find Them." This presentation by local storytellers from across the County brings people and events to life. As spring is in the air, Mary MacKay will be talking about flooding in Paisley and Joanne Sutton will speak about Victoria Jubilee Hall in Walkerton; these are just two of the many storytellers we will be hearing from on this day. Then take a behind-the-scenes peek of the Archives and Research Room. This event is free and begins at 1:30 p.m. You will want to call ahead to RSVP, as seating is limited.
