pratie oatenThe potatoes are dug and it's time to boil up a pot of "lumpers" to make a batch of everyone's favourite "Pratie Oaten": Irish potato oatcakes!

On Sunday, September 30, come to Moreston Heritage Village at Grey Roots to take part in the Pratie Oaten Irish Festival! From 11 a.m. until 4 p.m, the village will be full of delicious food, costumed interpreters, and entertainment. Pratie Oaten 2Enjoy live music and storytelling by Jim, Anne, and Dan McGee; Scatter the Cats; Tara MacKenzie; Rob Rolfe and Larry Jenson; Fiddlefern Dance Players and Callers; and storyteller Bruce Carmody. Check out the period buildings, see a crosscut saw demonstration, and stop by the 4H Potato Club Potato Auction! Samples of pratie oaten will be available throughout the day in the Log Cabin.

Katie Clarke, Heritage Interpreter, says, "Pratie Oaten is a fun day with an important message: we're uncovering the struggles and perseverance of our early Irish settlers, and celebrating the importance and influence of their culture and traditions."
