Two days, eight turkeys, one principal, two librarians, one police officer, one firefighter, and I could not count all the volunteer parents and caregivers because they were moving too fast! That's what it took to serve almost 250 turkey dinners at Alexandria policesweaterCommunity School's annual Christmas lunch.

Everyone wore handmade tissue paper hats and crowns and the gym was decorated with poinsettas, lights, snowflakes and Christmas trees. Brown paper and crayons and handmade placemats were on the tables as the whole school came in to Christmas music and oohs and aahs.

After a gratitude song led by one Kindergarten class, the older grades guided their reading buddies through the line to be served by the Celebrity Servers - turkey, stuffing, carrots, corn, homemade mashed potatoes and gravy. Ice cream treats and hand-decorated cookies were dessert, and then four lucky students won unique little gingergread houses.

As Principal Dan Russell said, families have traditions, and the Alexandra family certainly seemed to enjoy this annual favourite. Thank you to all the volunteers who made this possible for the Alexandra children again this year.
