ultimate01Ultimate Frisbee has returned to Kelso Beach Park for another year thanks to the Owen Sound Ultimate Frisbee group. With drop-in sessions every Monday from 6-8pm at the Kelso Beach field, the group encourages all genders, ages and skill levels to try out the game.

Ultimate Frisbee, or just Ultimate for short, is an easy to learn, no-contact sport. Similar to soccer and football.

It involves lots of running, but with a Frisbee disc” says Owen Sound Ultimate organizer Eric Busch. “Ultimate is competitive but never at the expense of sportsmanship,” he added.

ultimate02The Owen Sound Ultimate Frisbee group has been gathering for more than ten years. Originally, they played impromptu games in school yards but the level of community interest and organization have grown over the years. Currently, the group includes players ranging from their teens to their fifties from all over Grey-Bruce. Games last about 1.5 hours, usually followed by food and drinks at a local restaurant. This year, Busch is also organizing introductory clinics before the games so that new players can learn the basics before jumping into a game.

We want people to discover how much fun this game is,” Busch said. “If you’re interested in trying it out you can just show up to the next game. Your first three games are free which gives you a chance to see if you like it”.

For people who want to play all summer, the registration fee is $40. No equipment is required except running shoes or cleats.

According to Busch, Ultimate is the perfect sport if you're looking to get in better shape, meet some really cool people, and play a competitive but friendly game.

You’ll find more details and the full schedule on the group’s website: OwenSoundUltimate.com.
