Last week, at Alexandra Community School, we had our annual ‘Fill a Bag and Make a Difference’ clothing drive. Over the course of the week our Eagles were challenged to bring in as much used clothing as possible. The clothing was donated to the Kidney Foundation to be repurposed or recycled. The bags of clothes were weighed each day to see which class brought in the greatest amount. Congratulations to Mrs. Diemert’s JK/SK class for being at the top of the leader board with a whopping 65.6 kilograms! In total, our school brought in 542.3 kilograms of clothing!
While school challenges like this are fun and raise school spirit, they also provide very important learning for our children. Our Fill a Bag and Make a Difference campaign reminds us all of the importance of thinking of those less fortunate and that we need to do what we can to make sure community needs are met. Also, as we begin Waste Reduction Week, our clothing drive allows us to participate in a meaningful way – clothing that is re-purposed or recycled will not end up in the landfill.
Way to work, Eagles.
