On Friday, February 14th, Alexandra Community school held their second annual Carnaval. This festival is a school-wide celebration of French music, culture and language.
Alexandra French Teacher, Ricki Mullen, worked with her grade seven and eight students as part of a unit of study, to organize this special event for all Alexandra Eagles to enjoy. For the entire day, the school was divided into groups ranging from Kindergarten to grade 7. The groups rotated through activities which were run by the grade 7 and 8 leaders.
The outdoor activities included making maple syrup taffy around the campfire, painting in the snow, team skiing, snowball tossing and much, much more. All of this while the Eagles and their neighbours enjoyed traditional and contemporary Carnaval music.
The weather was perfect for outdoor fun! That said, a number of indoor activities were planned so that students had opportunities to warm up throughout the day, make their Carnaval masks and enjoy pancakes and hot chocolate. The Alexandra Community would like to thank teacher Greg Courage for being the official photographer of Carnaval 2020. Also, thank you to our two community sponsors, Zehrs and Owen Sound Tim Hortons, for their generosity. And of course, a special thank you Mme. Mullen and her grade 7 and 8 students for their hard work and for teaching all students about French language, music and culture in such an exciting way!
