- by Anne Finlay-Stewart, Editor

For her first polar plunge, Aimee Gilchrist was a red Smurf. This year, her costume remains a surprise to be revealed on Thursday, April 2 at the 2020 Polar Plunge to support the Special Olympics.

aimeepolarThe event will be held in a pool at Georgian College at 7:30, with registration beginning at 6:00, and spectators are most welcome.

Aimee competes in the Special Olympics in 10-pin bowling, basketball, curling, rhythmic gymnastics, cross-country skiing, track and field and golf. She was the top Plunge fundraiser in 2019, and she is trying to raise even more for 2020.

When donations are made to support plungers who are Special Olympic athletes or coaches, 75% of the money stays in Owen Sound to pay for expenses like transportation, gym and field rentals, and hosting tournaments. There are over 150 participants in Special Olympic activities in our community.
