superheroes

- by Shea Angus

These are crazy times we find ourselves in. Parks usually packed are empty. Streets bustling on a normal day are sometimes totally empty and quiet now. Main streets and many businesses typically flourishing with the arrival of Spring are closed to try and flatten the curve. However, life must go on.

In these times, a select few have become (or perhaps always have been) the lifeline to all of our communities. Grocery store employees, healthcare workers, construction workers, electricians, plumbers, I could go on. While we stay home to do our part, these people have continued to go to work, at great personal risk to themselves, to ensure that we are stocked up on supplies or that our homes are in good shape to sustain us while we spend more time there.

But essential workers can expand beyond just that definition. Maybe you are a senior at increased risk and have a neighbour that has been picking up your groceries. Maybe you have someone who has been helping you pass the time and made you feel less isolated by streaming an online concert.

There are numerous examples of these people that are making things easier for individuals or their communities by looking out for one another. Their work is absolutely essential and I wanted to do something to reward those people in our community.

It is simple to enter! Simply message Big Mouth Marketing and in 25 words or less, tell us who your nominee is & why they are the most essentially essential during this pandemic!  Anyone who would like their nomination published in the Owen Sound Hub as a thank you - we can do that too!

Remember, an essential worker can be anyone that has helped you or your community to get through this shutdown.  Not all superheroes wear capes!

Submit your nominations here. Prize winners will be selected on May 13th.

I want to take this time as well to thank my co-sponsors who helped make this giveaway possible. Anne and the team from the Owen Sound Hub, Aakash and the Desai family from Leelas Villa Inn, and Chad Richards. Because of their generosity we are excited to offer fantastic prizes that include:

  • Two $150 grocery cards.
  • A gift basket of surprises
  • Two $20 Downtown Improvement Area Cards (redeemable at any business in downtown Owen Sound)

Please consider spreading the word and nominating deserving individuals for the giveaway so we can give back a little to the people that have given us so much when we needed it most.
