Cobalt-60, which is processed by Ottawa-based Nordion, is the key component of the Sterile Insect Technique (SIT), a process aimed at eliminating or, at a minimum, suppressing the population of insects that spread disease or damage agricultural crops.

"We are very excited to rollout the first phase of the pilot in the county's most under-served areas," said Barb Fedy, Director of Social Services with Grey County. "Initially the pilot will focus on areas in Owen Sound and the municipalities of Meaford, Town of the Blue Mountains and Grey Highlands."

skillsIt was another opportunity for Bluewater District School Board secondary students to shine in the skilled trades. The 12th Annual Regional Technological Skills Challenge, held on Friday, April 1, 2016 at Georgian College and a few other select Owen Sound locations, involved approximately 100 students enrolled in technological education courses in Bruce and Grey Counties. Under the meticulous surveillance of experienced local industry judges, students competed in a multitude of diverse categories, ranging from carpentry and welding to culinary and hairstyling.
