OSPS-featOfficers of the Midland Police Service are now being dispatched to calls by personnel of the communications centre at the Owen Sound Police Service.

Owen Sound Police Service Inspector Stephen MacKinnon stated, "This morning at 10:00 a.m. dispatchers from our emergency communications centre took over the responsibility of accepting and sending police officers of the Midland Police Service to calls in their community."

Providing professional, effective and efficient emergency communications services to other organizations is not new for the Owen Sound Police Service. The Police Service]has been the only Central Emergency Response Bureau (C.E.R.B.) in Grey and Bruce Counties since the introduction of 9-1-1 service into these areas, dating back to the 6th of June 1990.

MP Larry Miller spoke with The Hub on November 5 at the end of a long day in Ottawa, and on his way to the airport to attend the ground-breaking for the Marine Training facility at Georgian College.
The Conservative caucus had gathered along with those who were not re-elected to hear Stephen Harper's farewell as leader and to meet their thirty-some new colleagues. This was followed by a vote by MPs and senators to choose the party's interim leader -Rona Ambrose.

Miller says the party is in good hands. He and Ambrose were first elected together in 2004, and since then she has held eight posts in cabinet and its committees. Miller calls her "experienced and capable" and says she will bring the right persona to the job. "Rightly or wrongly, we were perceived to be confrontational", Miller said, but Ambrose will address that with the right balance. She has said she will be reaching out to get everyone's input, and Miller is looking forward to her call. "I have never been afraid to say what's on my mind."

shadowGeorgian College has reached its fundraising goal and broken ground on its new Marine Emergency Duties Training and Research Centre.

Algoma Central Corporation and Lower Lakes Towing have come on board in support. Algoma, which owns and operates the largest Canadian flag fleet of dry-bulk carriers and product tankers operating on the Great Lakes – St. Lawrence Waterway, announced their $1-million donation on Friday at the campus in Owen Sound. A long-time supporter of Georgian's marine programs, the Marine Emergency Duties Training and Research Centre will be named in the company's honour.

Bluewater Logo-featureBluewater District School Board is holding two initial public meetings to receive community feedback regarding the accommodation reviews that were recently announced for both the Owen Sound Area Group of Schools and Meaford Area Group of Schools.

The first public meeting for the Owen Sound Area Group of Schools will be held on Thursday, December 3, 2015 beginning at 7:00 p.m. in the Owen Sound Collegiate and Vocational Institute.

For the Meaford Area Group of Schools, which falls under a modified accommodation review process, a public meeting will be held on Monday, December 7, 2015 beginning at 7:00 p.m. in the Georgian Bay Secondary School gymnasium.
