grey roots signGrey Roots Museum & Archives is reopening to the public as of Wednesday, September 16. The facility, along with other non-essential County buildings, closed its doors to the public in March following regional and provincial health guidelines to limit the spread of COVID-19.

Moreston Heritage Village, Grey Roots’ seasonal ten acre living history site, is remaining open until Thanksgiving weekend to allow the public more time to enjoy the outdoor space and fall weather. The popular exhibit Facing the Flames: The History of Firefighting in Grey County has been extended through the fall.

Jill Paterson, Grey Roots Manager, is excited to welcome back guests. “It’s great that we are able to make use of our outdoor space into the fall. We have made some changes to our visitor experience, but we have lots of opportunities for people to have fun while exploring the exhibits and the village.”

Inside the galleries, visitors can explore the original exhibit Voices of Grey, which features a variety of local artefacts and moving personal stories about Grey County’s past, present, and future. The community gallery features a new exhibit, More Power to You: Simple Machines in Everyday Life, which was originally set to open during March Break.

Grey Roots will continue to follow Public Health guidelines as it prepares to welcome guests again.

“When you visit, we ask that you work with us to help keep our site as safe as possible for your family, other visitors, and our staff and volunteers,” says Paterson. Visitors are asked to book a time slot for their visit in advance, as capacity at Grey Roots is limited to 40 people at a time. Bookings can be made online at greyroots.com or over the phone at 519-376-3690. Anyone entering the building is required to screen for symptoms and wear a mask. Enhanced cleaning protocols are in effect and staff, volunteers, and visitors are reminded to regularly wash or sanitize hands and keep a two-metre distance from others.

A special members-only preview week is taking place September 9 to 15. Special reopening hours and admission rates are in effect until Thanksgiving. See greyroots.com for details.
