On September 13, 2020 at 4:11 p.m. Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to a missing person in Lake Huron, at Second Avenue South, north of French Bay Road, Saugeen First Nation. A witness last observed the male swimmer out from shore, in distress and struggling in the waves.
The search resumed this morning with the assistance of OPP Aviation Services, OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit (USRU) and the Grey Bruce OPP Marine Unit. The search is on-going at this time and more updates will be provided when available.
OPP are being assisted at the scene by the three surrounding fire departments, South Bruce Peninsula Fire Department, Saugeen First Nation Fire Department and Saugeen Shores Fire Department, as well as Joint Rescue Coordination Centre run by Royal Canadian Air Force and Canadian Coast Guard.
The search was put on hold at the end of the day, Sunday evening, but resumed Monday morning, September 14th. Grey Bruce OPP are asking the public and vessels to avoid the area at this time.
