No confirmed cases of Covid-19 were reported in Grey-Bruce this past 24 hours. Our Public Health Unit has been tracking our local assessment centres and the experience of those seeking tests, and we all want to thank those health care workers who have been doing the testing.
A draft report based on a sample of 51 people who responded to a survey indicating that they had attempted to receive a COVID-19 test at an assessment centre in Grey Bruce sometime between October 12 and October 18, shows a big improvement from only two to three weeks before.
- 98% of respondents received a test (or an appointment for a test) from the location at which they initially sought testing. (Up from 80% the week of Sept 28th)
- The 2% who did not receive a test from the location at which they initially sought testing did not go on to receive testing elsewhere and were undecided about whether or not they would isolate for 14 days instead of being tested.
- 87% of respondents were able to receive testing the same day or by the next day. (Up from 60% the week of Sept 28th)
- Of the 6% of respondents who visited an assessment centre for walk-in service (without a pre-booked appointment), all waited less than 30 minutes.
- 88% of respondents received their test results within 2 days. (Up from 59% the week of Sept 28th)
- 91% of respondents left the assessment centre with information about isolation or how to obtain testing results. (Up from 88% the week of Sept 28th)
Overall feedback was very positive. There were many positive comments about the staff at the assessment centres (friendly, kind, thorough, professional, etc.) and the efficiency of the service.
There were only a small number of suggested areas for improvement (and nearly all were made with the caveat that their overall experience was positive). Some examples included the desire for a drive-thru testing option, and optional follow-up assessment of symptoms at ER. There were also a few mentions of wait-times even with pre-booked appointments.
