youth natureYouth in Meaford are the lucky recipients of the FOCUS on Youth Mini Grants thanks to funding from RBC Future Launch and Community Foundation Grey Bruce.

Local youth Julia Tichbourne and Shawna Wren, with support from the Municipality of Meaford Recreation Department, submitted projects for funding to Ledge Leadership and the Grey Bruce Youth Engagement Network. Through this initiative youth were encouraged to create and develop inspiring and innovative projects and initiatives that increase wellbeing in their communities.

“I am very pleased to support our local youth while we facilitate these programs for our community, especially while we continue to navigate COVID-19 restrictions,” said Emma Smith-McLelland, Recreation Services Coordinator.

One project includes Forest Therapy Walks which will be operated in conjunction with Free Spirit Tours to increase physical activity, health and wellbeing of our community members throughout the pandemic. The second project is Family Day Meals which will provide meals to students and their families, who otherwise may not be able to afford a special meal on Family Day.

Project dates and restrictions are subject to change due to provincial guidelines, “Stay-at-Home” and lockdown orders. For more information about youth projects, initiatives and programs, visit www.meaford.ca/youthprograms.
