Next week police services across Ontario will be celebrating Police Week. This year's theme as designated by the Ontario Chiefs of Police (OACP) is "Discover Policing". The theme is designed to encourage community members to gain a better insight into the operating functions of a police service and to consider the various career opportunities within policing. This year, Police Week officially runs from May 10th to May 16th.
The Owen Sound Police Service has several events planned throughout the week. Some of these events include:

Saturday May 09th
Prescription Drug Drop Off- 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 pm
Prescription Drug Drop Off- This is an Ontario Association Chiefs of Police (O.A.C.P.) initiative in partnership with the Grey Bruce Health Unit. Members of the community have an opportunity to safely and conveniently dispose of unused or expired prescription medications at the Owen Sound Police Station (Barclay Room) 922 2nd Avenue West. This initiative helps make households safer by eliminating the opportunity for the accidental or intentional misuse of unneeded or expired prescription drugs.
Sunday May 10th
Owen Sound Police Road Hockey for Radiology Hockey Tournament
- This recreational tournament is being held in the 800 Block of 2nd Avenue East. from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm . There will be draw prizes, a BBQ lunch and other fun activities. Proceeds will go to the Owen Sound hospital's Radiology project.

Monday May 11th
Building Tours- 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and 7:30 pm to 9:00pm
- Members of the public can get a tour of the Owen Sound Police station, guided by members of the Owen Sound Service and get a behind the scenes look at some of the operations and equipment of the Owen Sound Police.
Tuesday May 12th
Shop with a Cop
Owen Sound Police Officers will be grocery shopping for a cause with members of the Meaford Optimist Club as well as students from Sydenham Elementary School. The students will be shopping for healthy non-perishable food at Zehrs, while sticking to a strict budget. The team coming the closest to their budget without going over, wins this fun competition for a good cause. With the generous donation support of Zehrs and the Meaford Optimist Club, all of the food will be donated to the local Salvation Army food bank.
Wednesday May 13th
Chief for a Day
All Owen Sound grade five students have the opportunity to write an essay on the topic of "As Chief of Police I would convince more kids to become interested in policing as a career by"...
The winner of the essay contest will be sworn in as the Chief for the day, have the opportunity to get a real close up behind the scenes look at what it is like to be a police officer.

Thursday May 14th
Chief Citation Awards
Five deserving members will receive recognition for bravery, life saving intervention and crime prevention
- Three members for life saving intervention saving a distraught woman who jumped in the harbour.
- One member for life-saving medical intervention to a cyclist involved in a serious collision.
- One member for his intervention and apprehension of an impaired driver.
Friday May 15th and Sunday May 17th
- Joint Forces Traffic Initiatives- Officers from the Owen Sound Police Service will be teaming up with officers from municipal police services and O.P.P. detachments in Grey and Bruce County to conduct R.I.D.E. checks and traffic enforcement and education initiatives, in an effort to keep our roads safe in Grey and Bruce Counties. This initiative is also in conjunction with the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police (CACP) annual Road Safety Week which is conducted annually during Victoria Day weekend.
