Clumpus WebThe uptick in local infections of the virus last week meant that some vaccinations were delayed to allow the Grey Bruce Health Unit to catch up on the significant volume of contact tracing this caused. However, by Sunday Dr. Arra announced that they were able to redeploy staff to manage the contact volume, and to return to vaccinating folks in priority sequences and more broadly through the hockey hub locations. This week, local case numbers continue to be higher than we’ve seen in the past. The COVID-19 Variants which are present in our area, are of concern because they are more virulent and highly contagious, so it is important that we all continue to follow the stay-at-home order, avoid unnecessary travel, and stick to the three W’s – Wear a mask, Wash your hands, and Watch your distance.

Last weekend, the Province put in place stricter measures to reduce the virus spread across Ontario. This has necessitated even more patience as we implement these changes to our Municipal services, so thank you for that. At the moment, our playgrounds, trails, boat launch, parks and green spaces are open, as is the leaf and garden waste depot on 7th Line. Outdoor recreation facilities such as the skateboard park, tennis courts, and baseball diamonds are closed. The goal is to discourage gatherings where the variants could spread easily, so please limit close contact to those in your household and keep this in mind as you enjoy the outdoors.

As the vaccination clinics continue to roll out, I encourage you to sign up when your turn comes. I am relieved and happy to have had my vaccination. The process was very smooth and efficient, and I’ve had no after effects. It does take your body time to build up immunity after getting the dose, so please continue to stay safe and follow the usual precautions, particularly keeping your distance and wearing a mask when around others.

As we ride out this third wave of limited outings, still virtual social interactions, and the frustrating impact on our jobs and children’s education, I know how difficult it is to stay positive and to find things to look forward to. My spirits are lifted with the warmth of sunshine, the new green appearing in the willows and very welcome arrival of spring flowers. A friendly wave and hello from folks we meet outdoors – distantly of course – always brings a smile. We will come through this difficult time, as we have with the previous waves, and I hope you are all able to find moments of peace and happiness in these trying times.

Stay well, everyone.
