The Green Party has announced its candidate for Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound for the September 20 federal election - A. Michelle Lawrence.
"I am a resident of Owen Sound, 30 yrs old, a mother, a Registered Practical Nurse, and a previous market gardener. I am passionate about mitigating climate change, reconciliation with indigenous peoples, improving social determinants of health, investing in renewable energy, expanding local food systems, empowering youth, and strengthening our local economy around these things.
I have been a Registered Practical Nurse since graduating in 2020. In 2017 I completed a farming apprenticeship, which was what brought me to this area of Ontario. I also have a Bachelor's degree from York University.
My local contributions to our community include volunteering for Neighbourwoods North (a tree planting organisation), Neighbourwoods NorthOwen Sound Waste Watchers, Summerfolk Music Festival, the Women's Centre Grey Bruce, and the Lake Huron Centre for Coastal Conservation as a Coast Watcher. I have also grown vegetables for the food bank while I was a market gardener. Thanks for your time. Hope everyone gets out to vote."
