Alex Ruff will return to Ottawa as Member of Parliament for Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound with close to half the votes cast in the riding.

After a 36 day campaign, the 44th Canadian parliament looks almost identical to the 43rd.  Justin Trudeau continues to be Prime Minister of a minority government with 31.8% of the popular vote; Erin O'Toole remains Leader of the Opposition with 34%.  The leaders of the Green Party and the People's Party did not win their own seats.

National political commentator Chantal Hebert described it as "an election nobody wanted, where no party got what they wanted."

As of 9 a.m., with fewer than 249 of 250 polls reporting, the local numbers were as follows.  We will provide final numbers after the special ballots have been counted.

electionnight
