Giving Tuesday is a time when Canadians, charities, and businesses come together to celebrate giving and participate in activities that support charities and non-profits; to thank, help, give, show kindness, and share what they have with those in need. Every act of generosity counts. Everybody has something to give.

For Giving Tuesday, the YMCA of Owen Sound Grey Bruce is taking this as an opportunity to say THANK YOU to our current and past donors and invite others to join our community of supporters. For 144 years, the YMCA has served individuals across Grey and Bruce communities. Through camps, child care, swim lessons, health and wellness programs, and more, we’ve worked to help individuals feel seen, valued, supported, and connected.

“Our 2020-2021 fiscal year was challenging to say the least, with months of lockdowns and closures. It was an unprecedented time for our community and for our country but presented an opportunity for our YMCA to show its true value in this community,” says Sarah Cowley, CEO at YMCA of Owen Sound Grey Bruce. “Despite a challenging year, over 2,800 people of all ages were active at our Health, Fitness and Aquatics (HFA) facility, with 11% of those people relying on financial assistance to be there; 124 children were supported through our Emergency Child Care program, allowing their parents to continue working on the frontlines; 8,029 nights of emergency shelter were provided for vulnerable individuals in Grey Bruce…and so much more!”

The YMCA is a community – one that’s been built through the generous support of individuals. People who’ve realized that we’re stronger together. People who know the value of showing up and staying connected – even when a global pandemic has challenged what that might look like.

“We will not let the pandemic stop us from serving our community. When we were asked to stay apart, we found ways to stay connected. When our community was in need, we made sure it knows we care,” says Sarah Cowley. “Now, more than ever, your community, YOUR Y, needs you! You can help make sure we’re here for good, more caring and connected than ever before”.
