The West Grey Public Library, isn’t letting a move back to curbside interfere with great programs and services for patrons and other West Grey residents.

Take & Make crafts for both kids and adults are flying out the door, and there has been great response to the Library’s Spice of the Month Club, the Writers’ Retreat with Library writer-in-residence Lorina Stephens that begins January 19th,  and book bundles in recognition of Family Literacy Day.  The West Grey Library’s 2022 Reading Challenge starts in January, with participants invited to widen their reading world as they read or listen 12 books in 12 months. Readers register by contacting [email protected] and receive a Challenge form, with 12 different categories.  Completed forms can be submitted at the end of the year for prizes.

Many Library patrons have made friends with Libby, the free app from OverDrive, that makes it easy to borrow eBooks and eAudiobooks using phone, computer, or tablet. Now, Libby users can also access over 4,000 magazines and Kanopy, a streaming service that allows users to access critically acclaimed movies, documentaries and award-winning foreign films - all available free with a West Grey Library card.

Grey County Reads kicks off January 17th, with instalments from each of seven readers as they advocate for their chosen books. South Grey News organizes this annual event, with sponsors among local businesses and representatives.  All Grey County residents can support their local library by submitting a vote once per day during the contest, which runs until April 10th. The Library in the winning community gets a grand prize of a $200 voucher from Speaking Volumes Books and Audio, and three voters’ names are drawn at random and also win gift certificates!  West Grey’s book is The Apollo Murders by astronaut Chris Hadfield.

On Friday, January 14th, the Friends of the Library will be having a book drive from 1pm-3pm at the Riverside Park Parking Lot in Durham to support their next book sale in February.  Donors are reminded that the Library will not be accepting donations of books or other items; these will all be handled by the Friends off-property for the foreseeable future.
