covidupdates

We are no longer reporting new cases of Covid-19 in the region. Public Health says the numbers are not an accurate representation of caseloads in the community due to recent changes in testing in Ontario and  only represent those that are eligible to be tested.

However they are reporting 17 Grey-Bruce residents are hospitalized due to confirmed Covd-19, and all current cases in ICU are people who are not fully vaccinated.  138 more local health care workers have tested positive for Covid-19 since January 1 - in two weeks, more than doubling the cumulative number of 128 since March 2020.

11 Long Term Care and Retirement homes remain in outbreak, and one medical unit at the Owen Sound Hospital.

Vaccinations

According to provincial data, Grey-Bruce has the lowest vaccination rate out of the 34 Public Health Units in Ontario - 82% with at least two shots, age 12 and up, and 81% with at least one dose, age 5 and up.  For 3rd shot boosters for 18 years and up, at 52%, we are more in the middle of the pack  a range of 35-62%.

Mass vaccination clinics at the Bayshore in Owen Sound will run until Friday, January 21, and have plenty of available appointments.  So many so that some volunteers were receiving this letter yesterday - "In order to ensure smooth operations and due to very low bookings, we have opted to reduce the number of volunteers for the clinic at the Bayshore Community Centre on Tuesday January 18, 2022.  If you are receiving this message, your shift has been cancelled."

All other scheduled Public Health vaccination clinics are fully booked until January 24.

"Everyone aged 12-59 years of age seeking first, second, third or fourth doses requires an appointment at all clinics (no walk-ins) and must meet all eligibility criteria. Everyone is strongly encouraged to book for all appointments; however, those 60+ may be accommodated for walk-ins depending on clinic capacity."
