The Grey Bruce Health Unit will be holding a vaccination clinic May 20 for individuals who have added their names to a waiting list to receive a first or second dose of the protein-based, non-mRNA Novavax COVID-19 vaccine.
The clinic will take place at the Grey Bruce Health Unit building in Owen Sound from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. No walk-in appointments will be available.
Authorized by Health Canada for use in adults without contraindications, Novavax can be an option for individuals who are unable or unwilling to receive an mRNA COVID-19 vaccine, according to the National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI). This includes individuals with an allergy that precludes them from being vaccinated with an mRNA vaccine.
Holding the Novavax clinics is part of Public Health’s ongoing and concerted effort to support residents in getting and remaining up to date on potentially life-saving COVID-19 vaccinations.
Public Health’s decision to hold the clinic is in response to the number of people who have contacted the health unit to be placed on a waiting list to receive the Novavax vaccine.
Individuals who wish to be added to the waiting list for the May 20 Novavax COVID-19 vaccine clinic can call Public Health at 519-376-9420 and choose Option 2.
NACI continues to preferentially recommend the use of mRNA COVID-19 vaccines for most people due to the excellent protection they provide against severe illness and hospitalization and their well-known safety profiles.
The Grey Bruce Health Unit encourages the public to stay up to date on their COVID-19 vaccines, which means receiving all recommended doses, including any boosters when eligible.
