ground truth
Billy Bishop Museum spent the spring collaborating with veterans of the war in Afghanistan on a new exhibit called Ground Truth, set to open to the public June 10. The Museum will be hosting a private reception for the veterans who shared their stories and contributed to this exhibit, along with their family and friends. It is important to get every veteran’s experience out there for others to hear and learn from, to try to better understand the sacrifices made for Canada and for peace.

Billy Bishop Museum wishes to thank these veterans for trusting us with their stories and their mementos from their time in Afghanistan. Although Canada has not been in Afghanistan since 2014, these veteran’s stories and experiences are as fresh and endearing today as they were then. Time has allowed many to speak more freely of their deployments while others are reluctant to do so. These perspectives are important to share and preserve for future generations. We have many veterans in Grey and Bruce Counties who served in Afghanistan, in a war where 158 Canadian service personal died. We cannot forget this history and the men and women who served then, as they do today.

We welcome everyone who has an experience to share about Afghanistan as this is a living and evolving exhibit that will be added to as the year goes on. No contribution is too small! Whatever you are comfortable sharing. Your name can be included or your story can be anonymous. We would like to conduct video or audio interviews and would also accept written accounts of the Afghanistan experience.

Please call the museum at 519-371-0031 or email [email protected] to book an interview time.
