Owen Sound Fire and Emergency Services were called to two separate fires within 30 minutes to two different multi-family homes on Tuesday evening.
Responding first, second and third alarm crews contained the fires to the units of origin.
The affected units were vacant at the time of the fires. Smoke alarms could be heard ringing at each of the locations.
As a result of the initial investigation by Fire Prevention staff and Owen Sound Police Services the Ontario Fire Marshal’s office has been contacted to assist with the ongoing investigation. The cause of the fires is currently undetermined.
Residents are reminded that when they hear a smoke alarm to dial 911 immediately from a safe location. Delaying dialing 911 gives fire time to grow.
Remember:
- Smoke alarms are required to be located on every level of your home
- Practice your home escape plan with your family
- In the event of a fire close doors and alert occupants that a fire is occurring
