The Township of Georgian Bluffs was deeply saddened to learn about the recent incidents in our region where hateful and discriminatory letters were sent to individuals within our 2SLGBTQIA+ communities. Council would like to emphasize that these actions are completely unacceptable and do not reflect the values of our inclusive and diverse community.
Georgian Bluffs is a place that values equality, respect, and acceptance for all individuals, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. We stand firmly against any form of discrimination or harassment. To those who received these offensive letters, please accept our heartfelt apologies. You are valued members of the community, and we stand by you.
We urge all residents of Georgian Bluffs to condemn these actions and support one another. Reach out to your neighbours, friends, and community members to show them support and kindness.
Council would also like to thank the Grey Bruce Pride group, who have shown immense strength and resilience amid all the hurt and harm they have experienced. We sincerely appreciate their advocacy, and emphasize that their concerns are of utmost importance to this Council and our community.
Georgian Bluffs is committed to working with community organizations, stakeholders, and local leaders to combat discrimination and ensure we are a safe place for all. Grey Bruce Pride has asked all Municipalities to look at implementing Anti-Hate Response Policies and Procedures, and take proactive and preventative measures against hate and oppression. Our Council looks forward to discussing further how we can support this request and continue to combat discrimination in our community.
As community leaders, it is our responsibility to respond effectively to their calls for action. Together, we can make a meaningful difference to protect the rights and well-being of all residents in Georgian Bluffs and across Grey Bruce.
