Georgian Bluffs Township announces the launch of a comprehensive ATV rider safety campaign aimed at ensuring the safety of visitors and residents while preserving the Township's environment.
The campaign, conducted in collaboration with the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), will commence in July and continue throughout the summer season.
Georgian Bluffs offers a diverse range of off-road riding opportunities, with its extensive gravel and asphalt roads, the Rail Trail spanning nearly 14 kilometers, and serene off-the-beaten-path routes. These features attract numerous ATV enthusiasts who seek to explore the Township's natural beauty while engaging in their favorite activity.
Acting CAO Niall Lobley acknowledges the importance of balancing the enjoyment of ATV riding with responsible and considerate behaviour.
He emphasizes, "We want to help ensure that all visitors to Georgian Bluffs are able to enjoy all that we have to offer as safely as possible and without negatively impacting the environment, other residents, and visitors in the Township."
"Georgian Bluffs is a beautiful destination for ATV riding, and we want everyone to have a memorable and safe experience. By promoting responsible riding practices and protecting our delicate ecosystems, we can ensure the enjoyment of our township for generations to come," says Mayor Sue Carleton.
The safe riding campaign will involve OPP Officers stationed strategically across the Township to engage with ATV riders. Their primary focus will be to promote courteous and responsible riding practices, emphasizing adherence to speed limits and the use of proper safety equipment. License and permit checks will also be conducted to ensure compliance with road rules.
Additionally, patrols will be actively carried out to prevent riders from accessing areas where ATVs are not permitted. This measure is designed to safeguard the Township's escarpments and maintain the integrity of its delicate and vibrant ecosystems.
Georgian Bluffs Township encourages all ATV riders to cooperate with the OPP Officers and embrace this safety campaign. By doing so, visitors and residents can experience the natural wonders of the Township while fostering a safe and respectful environment for all.
