CFGB Spring GrantsCommunity Foundation Grey Bruce (CFGB) hosted a celebration of sharing last evening at the Victoria Jubilee Hall in Walkerton, Ontario. The Foundation distributed $347,915 to 85 charities and not-for-profits from across the region. Representatives from a variety of organizations were present to pick up their cheques and to share their stories. All of the recipients expressed gratitude to the organizations, individuals and families that have generously invested in the future of Grey and Bruce by endowing funds and legacy gifts with the Foundation.

The vast array of meaningful community projects receiving support encompassed the upcoming Ripley Food Art Craft Festival, youth literacy enhancements at the Dundalk Public Library, boardwalk and trail updates on the northern Bruce Peninsula, and an edible urban garden to nurture wellness through Canadian Mental Health Association Grey Bruce, as well as national and provincial Fastpitch tournaments that are coming to Owen Sound this year. This diversity reflects the breadth of community activities in arts, culture, sport, education, environment and wellness that make Grey and Bruce vibrant.

Kim West, Chairperson of the CFGB Board, says "What an exciting year 2016 has been already for CFGB. We welcomed the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, to a luncheon in Owen Sound and launched the 'payforschool' website that supports his Smart and Caring Education initiative. We are very excited with the hire of our new Executive Director, Stuart Reid, who needs no introduction to the region; and we are busy getting ready to host our next guest speaker Adrienne Clarkson in October. Watch for details to follow. All of these activities allow us to give back to our community as we are doing this evening, to make it a better place to live."

Created in 1994, Community Foundation Grey Bruce has a mandate to strengthen Grey and Bruce communities through endowment building, grant making, and community partnerships. The Foundation is currently accepting letters of intent for Capital Projects until July 1st. These grants for $3,500 to $35,000 per project will be distributed in the fall for renovations, retrofits and capital equipment for registered charities and qualified not-for-profit organizations. The next general grants deadline for projects and programs is September 30th, 2016.
