On June 20, 2016 at 3:45 p.m., a Bruce Peninsula Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer charged a driver for passing emergency vehicles unsafely, on Highway 6 near Ira Lake Road, in the Municipality of Northern Bruce Peninsula. The officer was engaged at a prior traffic enforcement incident, with a local Tow Truck Company on the shoulder of Highway 6, Northern Bruce Peninsula. A black Mercedes drove upon the emergency vehicles at an excessive rate of speed attempting to pass a vehicle that was properly yielding to the emergency vehicles. The Mercedes was then observed by the officer passing another vehicle unsafely with oncoming traffic.

The Bruce Peninsula OPP Officer stopped the Mercedes and charged a 30-year-old driver from Toronto with failing to slow down and proceed with caution for emergency vehicles and passing on a roadway not clear- approaching traffic.

"The Bruce Peninsula OPP is requesting the public to be aware of all emergency personnel, including police, fire, ambulance, or a tow trucks; as they are required to do their work on the shoulders of busy highways. For safety reasons, the law requires all drivers to slow down and proceed with caution when passing emergency vehicles parked on the side of the highway with their lights activated," said Provincial Constable Katrina Rubinstein-Gilbert, Bruce Peninsula OPP Detachment.
