On August 13th at approximately 1030a.m. family members of Andrew Fitzgerald reported him missing.
Private Andrew Fitzgerald, who is from Nova Scotia, is a member of the Canadian Armed Forces and had just completed training at the 4th Canadian Training Centre in Meaford, prior to his disappearance. Andrew was in the City of Owen Sound on Friday evening (Aug. 12th) and into Saturday morning following the completion of his training program. He was last seen in the area of the Petro Canada gas station located at 16th Street East and 9th Avenue East, Owen Sound at approximately 430a.m. on Saturday August 13th.
Andrew has not reported back to the Canadian Armed Forces and has not had any known contact with friends or family. There has been no activity on his cell phone or on social media.
On August 13th, Owen Sound Police commenced a missing person investigation into the whereabouts of Andrew, which included interviewing persons who were with Andrew leading up to the hours that he was last seen, reviewing video surveillance footage and conducting a ground search. Since the initial investigation the Owen Sound Police have partnered with the Ontario Provincial Police West Region Emergency Response Team, and the Canadian Armed Forces to expand the search efforts for Andrew.
The cooperative efforts have included ground search, O.P.P. Canine Unit, marine (Underwater Search and Recovery Unit) and helicopter. Search areas thus far have focused within the City of Owen Sound, primarily on the east side, down to the shoreline, including surface and sub-surface searches of the harbour.
At this time police have no information as to the exact direction that Andrew last travelled. He was last seen on foot with no access to a vehicle. Police are continuing the search and investigation and are following up on any information obtained. Andrew was last seen wearing:
* A burgundy baseball hat with a black peak, with a letter 'C' in a link chain style
* A burgundy plaid shirt, white T-shirt, beige khaki pants and black skateboarding style shoes
Police and Canadian Armed Forces emphasize that there is no indication that Andrew Fitzgerald presents any risk to public safety nor is he in possession of any military weapons. Efforts are focused on locating Andrew.
