The Board of Governors of Georgian College is pleased to release the new strategic plan which will guide the work and priorities of college staff over the next five years.
The college's vision is to accelerate success through exceptional teaching and learning, innovation and partnerships. The plan is built on four key themes: accelerated success, meaningful collaboration, inspired innovation and strong foundations.
"This plan will serve as a touchstone document to focus our energies during a time when the needs of our students and communities continue to rapidly evolve and expand," says Board Chair Tom McBride. "It follows a year-long collaborative process where we heard from students, staff and community stakeholders across all seven campuses about what they need from Georgian."
The strategic plan builds on Georgian's success as Ontario's number one co-op college, its first-place graduate employment rating among Ontario's English-language colleges, and status as a college system trailblazer in entrepreneurship and social innovation.
New commitments to be delivered over the five-year life of the plan include:
· A guarantee to employers of graduates' job readiness
· A comprehensive degree strategy for central Ontario, and a degree pathway delivered in the region for every Georgian diploma program
· Research and scholarship that connect students, employees and the community
· An enhanced focus on international education and the infusion of Indigenous ideas and values across the college community
"As a new academic year begins, I can see from the mix of students who fill our hallways that our population is changing. Georgian will continue to adapt to meet their needs," says President and CEO MaryLynn West-Moynes.
"We have strengthened our focus on growing international, indigenous and domestic student enrolment in a way that enables our graduates to prepare for the global workforce and also ensures a highly skilled and competitive talent pool for our businesses and communities. We will expand and evolve diploma and degree program offerings and delivery methods in response to those shifting demographics and labour market demands."
Georgian is highly focused on making a real difference in the lives of those who live in the communities in which the college operates, McBride says.
"Accelerating success is Georgian's pledge and our responsibility to students, graduates, employers and the communities we serve. We have every confidence this new strategic plan will guide us in this important effort," he says.
