On September 21, 2016 at approximately 2:28 p.m., members of the Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), West Region Emergency Response Team (ERT) and the Canine Unit responded to an address on Grey 1, east of Wiarton, in the Township of Georgian Bluffs after a man had been assaulted with a machete.
The victim, an employee of the Township of Georgian Bluffs, attended the address to speak with the property owner regarding a by-law issue. The resident became verbally aggressive and demanded the victim leave the property. The victim was walking away when he was assaulted from behind. He fled to a neighbouring property where he was able to get help. The 46-year old victim sustained minor injuries as a result of the assault.
At 5:05 p.m., police arrested the suspect outside his residence without incident. He was transported to hospital where he was treated for minor injuries which was the result of his earlier encounter with the victim.
62-year old Ulrich Frich TEMPELMANN of Georgian Bluffs is charged with assault with a weapon.
A bail hearing is scheduled for September 22, 2016 in Owen Sound.
The investigation is ongoing.
