BRIEFCASE CONTAINING DOCUMENTS AND CASH STOLEN  FROM UNLOCKED VEHICLE

(TOWNSHIP OF SOUTHGATE, ON) – Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is reminding residents to “Lock it or Lose it” after an unlocked vehicle was entered and a man’s wallet and a briefcase, containing personal documents and a substantial amount of cash, was stolen.

The theft occurred sometime between 10:00 p.m. on October 3rd and 7:00 a.m. on October 4th, 2016, while the vehicle was parked at a residential driveway on Hwy. 6 in the Township of Southgate.

Thefts from vehicles are a crime of opportunity.  Don’t be a victim of a crime that is preventable by remembering these few points:

  • Always roll up your vehicle’s windows and lock the doors.

  • Never leave your vehicle unattended while it is running.

  • If you have a garage, use it and lock the door as well as your vehicle.

  • Never leave your car keys in plain view or in an easily accessible area.

  • Always park your vehicle in a well-lit area.

  • Never leave valuable objects or packages in full view.  Put them in the trunk.
