MARKDALE – On Sunday, July 6, 2014 at approximately 6:52 p.m., Grey County Ontario Provincial Police received a report of a sexual assault that occurred outside the laundry mat located at 17 Toronto St., S., Markdale, in the municipality of Grey Highlands. The victim was a 49-year old woman from Grey Highlands.

While en route to the scene, an officer observed a man, matching the description of the suspect, walking southbound on Toronto St. S. The suspect, who appeared to be intoxicated, refused to stop and talk to police despite several requests by the officer. Once he was arrested the suspect resisted arrest until such time as other officers arrived to assist. The arresting officer suffered a minor injury to his hand.

Wilfred Edward Cottrill, 39, of Grey Highlands, faces a number of charges, including obstruct peace officer, resist peace officer, sexual assault, as well as being intoxicated in a public place. He was held for a bail hearing. His next court appearance is July 31, 2014.
