Every year preventable tragedies occur when drivers who are intoxicated get behind the wheel and drive a vehicle. The holiday season is fast approaching which means many of you will be going to parties, business lunches and social gatherings to celebrate.

Today the Owen Sound Police Service is launching its annual festive R.I.D.E ( Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) campaign. The purpose of this campaign is to educate motorists about the perils of driving while impaired by alcohol, street drug or prescription medication and to help ensure that impaired drivers are not on city roadways.

The Owen Sound Police Service will be conducting the R.I.D.E program at various times of day and night and have zero tolerance for impaired driving. If you suspect that someone is driving impaired please call 9-1- 1.

The festive R.I.D.E program will begin today and run until March 2017.
