opp-graphic-fullSOUTHGATE – Grey County Ontario Provincial Police laid several charges during the Holstein Rodeo event this past weekend. The 13th annual Holstein Rodeo was held from Thursday, July 10 to Sunday, July 13, 2014 in the Township of Southgate.

R.I.D.E. (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) spot checks were conducted at different locations, resulting in a total of 510 vehicles being checked. The following charges were laid in connection with this year's event:

Highway Traffic Act – 10

Liquor Licence Act – 16

Trespass to Property Act – 3

Compulsory Automobile Act – 1

Grey County OPP, together with South Bruce OPP, Bruce Peninsula OPP, and the Hanover, Owen Sound, Saugeen Shores and West Grey Police Services participated in a Joint Traffic Initiative (JTI) between 12:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. on Friday, July 11th. This public safety traffic initiative was held to reduce impaired driving and educate the public on road safety practices in relation to towed vehicles.

In addition, a total of 6 Criminal Code charges were laid in connection with impaired driving, dangerous driving, sexual assault, assault, resist arrest, and mischief.
